Eshel is pleased to have Rabbi David Kalb as a friend. This year the Jewish Learning Center of New York (JLCNY) which Rabbi Kalb runs has invited Eshel members to join its FREE Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur Services! The service will be spirited and traditional. The minyan liturgy will be Modern Orthodox and you should expect a tefilah that is rousing and inspirational.
The JLCY actively strives to create a welcoming space for LGBTQ+ people within halakhic parameters. Participants may choose to sit on either of the two sides of the mechitza, with which they identify.
This is a fully halachic minyan. However, certain piyyutim (traditional poems) that are not halachicly required will be omitted to allow more time for singing and explanations.
This is a mechitza Minyan. So we understand the mechitza and liturgy may not be for everyone. But, if you or someone you know is looking for such a service with a mechitza, for the Yamim Noraim, please join JLCNY on Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur, September 2019/Tishri 5780.
There are no tickets or membership fees, just come!
Rabbi David Kalb (Rabbi of the Jewish Learning Center) will be officiating along with Baalei Tefila (prayer leaders), Rabbi Isaiah Rothstein (Rabbi in Residence at Hazon) and Yitzchak Schwartz (PhD in History Candidate at NYU).
Everything will take place (except Tashlich) at the Hudson Yards Synagogue (also known as Congregation Beth Israel/West Side Jewish Center), 347 West 34th Street between 8th and 9th Avenue.
Services will take place in the social hall on the ground floor. Services are free, however, in preparation for the High Holidays, it will be helpful to have a sense of how many people will be in attendance. Please fill out the High Holiday form and visit the JLCNY website for more information.
